Obi-Wan was surprised to hear the normally reserved Jedi Master speak like that but the repercussions of the war were weighing heavily on everyone and even the best of the Jedi were worn thin. “They can’t be serious,” Gallia argued, “They’ve basically screwed them.” “They’ve certainly got a strange way of showing gratitude,” Windu remarked, voice tight. The rest of the council looked just as dumbfounded as he did as he looked around the room. He looked up at Yoda’s drooping ears and the way that Windu was pinching the bridge of his nose and realized that it wasn’t a joke at all. It had just come out only a few minutes ago but it had only taken seconds for Obi-Wan’s stomach to sink as he skimmed over the words in front of him. “They’ve got to be joking,” Obi-Wan said in disbelief as the council looked over the missive that was being displayed on their datapads. With the help of Bail Organa, Padme Amidala, Mon Mothma, and Onaconda Farr they’d finally been able to get the bill on the Senate floor. Dubbed Operation Trooper Freedom by who Obi-Wan was sure has been Kit Fisto, the newly-formed sector of the High Jedi Council was taken with dealing with the biggest unknown following the war: What was to happen with the clones now that the war was over.Īfter firmly and angrily shooting down recommendations that called for the decommissioning of the clones, Kit Fisto, Plo Koon, and Obi-Wan had been tasked with aiding the clones in gaining citizenship, something that had been no easy task. It was through repair efforts that the Directive for the Freedom and Citizenship of Republic Heroes had come to fruition. The war had taken something from everyone- some more than others- and it didn’t seem like there was a single corner of the galaxy that was left untouched. Even with the end of the war -and the Republic’s biggest foes with it- there were still battles that the Jedi has to fight, fires to put out and reconstruction to begin. So Obi-Wan wasn’t sure who seemed angrier when they finally read the missive. But following the end of the war, it was clear that without the clones the galaxy would have been ruined. It was no secret that one of the biggest injustices had been the army of sentients that had been created for no other reason but to die for a Republic that hadn’t valued the sacrifices that they’d made. The number of atrocities that occurred during the war seemed endless and the scars left on the people who had been forced to commit them were still fresh enough that they burned like a blaster wound.
